Rare Antique Victorian White Ironstone English Advertising Pot – Seagers Potted Ham & Tongue of Ipswich in Green Transfer
This is a listing for ONE white ironstone potted meat pot, advertising Seager’s of Ipswich. A total of two are available to choose from, and both are rare examples of Victorian antique white ironstone advertising packaging pots with olive green coloured transfers.
Dating from the late 1800s/early 1900s, these are rare antique advertising white ironstone pots for potted meat. Both feature large and clear dark green transfer print advertising. The coloured pots are harder to source. They read:
“R SEAGER. POTTED HAM & TONGUE. IPSWICH”
Considered a throwaway item at the time it was produced, both these English advertising pots were salvaged from an old Victorian dump. And consequently they do bear some scars of their time underground.
LEFT POT: While this pot is in overall cleaner condition, covered in mild crazing, this does have a significant crack running from the side and across the base. It is still good for display but is obviously more fragile as the crack is not stable.
RIGHT POT: This pot has scuff and dirt marks, most notably on the top and base rims. There are also some minor nibbles to both rims and some discoloured crazing. There are also some small surface cracks to the glaze but these do not penetrate through. The transfer on this piece is still clear though.
