Rare Extra Large Antique French Ironstone Three Pound Felix Potin Confiture Pot
This is a listing for a lovely rare French confiture advertising pot for Felix Potin, dating from around 1900, in the extra large three pound size.
Dating from the very start of the 20th Century, this French ironstone advertising pot is a scarce survivor and is in wonderfully clean condition.
The Felix Potin jam or confiture pots came in a range of different styles. This teal coloured transfer is a real beauty, with the framed logo wrapping itself around the pot. The ironstone pot itself is very heavy and sturdy, a signature of the French examples.
This extra large three pound Confiture pot is an excellent example, with the transfer still very clear and very little discolouration to the ironstone. There is some mid staining on the back, at the top and base of the pot, as well as some light crazing, but this is very mild.
There are two chips on this piece, one a small chip to the top rim which has darkened in colour, and the other on the inside on the top rim, towards the back of the pot. This is about 1.5cm in length and has some light staining around it. This no doubt is a result of the pot’s time underground, as it was considered a throwaway away and was dumped after use.
Bearing the imprinted F.P initials on its base, together with the size marker (0.40 kilos) and the Luneville factory mark, this is a fabulous example of an antique French jam or marmalade pot. It would make a great starter piece in a collection and they are also ideal for use around the home as decorative pieces.
