Rare Round Shaped Edwardian Glass Advertising Shop Counter Display Jar – Wright & Sons Biscuits
Wonderful and scarce shop counter top advertising jar for Wright & Sons biscuits, dating from the early 1900s.
At the time this was produced, food stuffs were sold loosely. So jars like these would have sat proudly on display in grocers stores, showing off the food that was for sale.
Complete with its original lid, the thick glass jar is a rare rounded barrel shape. The front of the jar features white acid etched writing with the makers’ name in lovely font ‘Wright and Son Ltd’, which is nicely framed with decoration.
Considering it’s age, this antique advertising piece is in superb condition. There are a couple of very small and minor dents on the lid, plus two small nibbles to the top rim of the glass jar which are covered by the lid. This is extremely common on these jars, as they would have been in daily use in shops at the time. This is in fact the best condition I have seen a jar like this in for some time.
This would look fantastic proudly displaying food in a kitchen setting. It is also a highly collectable piece.
