Rarely Seen Antique Victorian English Ladies Favourite Creme Lucullus Advertising Pot
A unique example of a very rarely found Victorian English advertising pot for Crème Lucullus.
These crème lucullus pots are very rarely seen and are extremely difficult to source. This rare English advertising pot has wonderful imagery and colouring. Crème Lucullus was a savoury paste, classed as ‘The Ladies Favourite’. The under glaze transfer print advertising on this piece is still in exceptional condition, with the green brand details still very rich and clear in colour, contrasting nicely with the sweet little cherub cooking the purée in the kitchen, which takes centre stage on the pot in pink.
Considered throwaway items at the time, they are now mainly sourced from digging up old Victorian tips. And they often carry the scars of their life underground.
In light of the history of this pot, it is in remarkable condition with no chips or cracks. There is crazing all over, some of which have stained an orange colour in patches across the pot. This is more notable on the inside and base of the pot. But these imperfections give a unique timeworn charm to the pot.
These pots are very rarely available for sale, so this is a unique opportunity to add one to an English advertising pot collection.
