Antique Scottish Stoneware Buttercup Dairy Butter Crock
This is a lovely example of the rare Buttercup Dairy 3lb butter crock, made by Buchan pottery company in Edinburgh.
The two tone Scottish stoneware crock features the trademark image of the Buttercup Dairy, a cow in a field, in black transfer print, and dates from around 1910.
This 3lb version is a lovely size, perfect for ongoing use as a butter crock, for display or for use as a planter. The side is imprinted with the size and the maker’s mark for “Buchan, 7 Portobello, Edinburgh”.
The crock is in excellent condition. There are some minor nibbles to the base and a very small amount of fading to the cow image, although it is still clear.
Height, 15.5cm; Width, 19cm.
