Rare Antique Victorian White Ironstone Dollond Improved Minimum Thermometer

antique late victorian dollond london white ironstone improved minimum thermometer rare

This is a beautiful example of a rare late Victorian white ironstone thermometer.

Dating from the late 1800s, this white ironstone thermometer was produced by Dollond, a renowned maker of scientific instruments (and the forerunner to Dollond & Aitchison opticians). Made in ceramic, it is rare to find them without chips and damage to the white ironstone like this. Typical of its time, different lettering is used in different sections of the thermometer.

While the white ironstone frame to this thermometer is in excellent condition, with the transfer still clearly visible and only some very light crazing, the thermometer itself no longer works. Nonetheless, this is still a stunning and rare item to have on display in the home. It is an excellent decorative piece and a lovely example of Dollond’s work.
