Antique Rustic Early 20th Century Stackable Wooden Egg Rack for 20 Eggs

antique victorian edwardian rare 20 egg treen wooden stackable egg rack

A delightful treen egg rack to hold twenty eggs, dating to the early 20th Century.

This wooden egg rack has capacity to hold up to 20 eggs on a single tier. This more compact sized rack is quite difficult to source.

It was common for these racks to be used in the kitchens of large houses, where many eggs would be used daily. In fact, in Downton Abbey, the kitchen had an egg rack the same style as this, although it did run the entire length of the kitchen island.

It was common for these racks to be stacked on top of each other in order to deter pests from getting their hands on precious fresh eggs. Of simple construction, it has a primitive and rustic style. The top of the rack is a little squarer than you would normally find.

It is in fair condition considering the age of the piece. It is sturdy, with both legs both firmly in place with the original fixings but there is a slight wobble if pushed down. There are some surface stains to the top of the egg from where this has been used, and also some minor splits to the wood from the fittings. There is also one old worm hole on one of the legs. However, it is still a very usable piece and has many more years worth of use left in it.

It is a great piece of antique treen kitchenalia which is still perfect for use today whilst also adding a genuine antique charm to the kitchen.
