Rare Rectangular Shaped Early 20th Century Deeply Carved English Butter Stamp – Strawberries
This is a quality piece of antique treen kitchenalia dating from the early 20th Century, with a beautifully carved strawberry design.
This treen butter stamp or butter mould/mold has a lovely rich patina to it, with the carving of strawberries and their foliage in exquisite detail. It is unusual to see them in rectangular form like this.
Antique butter stamps look lovely displayed as part of a kitchenalia collection. They are also excellent used in the modern kitchen as biscuit stamps. They work particularly well on shortbread.
The butter print is in excellent overall condition, with a nice rich colour to the wood and the definition of the carving particularly sharp and detailed. The handle screws nicely into position.
There is some some minor loss to the bottom left corner of the border as well as wear to the top corners. However, this doesn’t detract and the mould itself is still perfectly usable.
A charming and unusual item, this piece would work well displayed in a farmhouse or cottage kitchen.
