Rare Antique French Ironstone Confiture Pot – Advertising Chateau Quesnel English et American Grocery Jam

rare white ironstone antique french confiture pot english et american grocery ch quesnel paris

This is a listing for a very rare French confiture pot for the English & American Grocery in Paris, dating from around 1900.

Dating from the very start of the 20th Century, this French ironstone advertising pot is a scarce survivor and has a uniquely timeworn patina to it.

This chubby one pound Confiture pot is a nice weathered example, with a fabulous worn patina. Considered throwaway items at the time, this was recently dug up from an old French dumping ground. This antique French pot therefore bears some of the scars of its time underground, most notably through dark coloured staining all over. Remarkably, though, the pot is otherwise in very good condition. There are no chips and just a surface crack to the glaze on the inside base of the pot.

Bearing a mark for a Parisian company, Frion, on its base, this Confiture pot would have been produced for a single shop based in Paris, the English et American Grocery. With a nod to the shop’s roots, the English coat of arms also appears on the logo. As the pots would only have been sold at this location, this is a very rare example of a French confiture pot.

In spite of the staining, the black transfer print logo is still clear and is of its time, with different fonts used on different lines.

It’s a lovely example, especially for those who like their antique advertising pots with a timeworn and weathered look to them.
