Rare Antique 1940s Large White Ironstone RAF – Royal Air Force – Serving Platter
This is a lovely large oval antique English white ironstone platter, dating from the 1940s and featuring the logo for the RAF, the Royal Air Force.
Made by Ashworth Bros, this company was renowned for quality ironstone pieces. This wonderful white ironstone platter features the logo for the RAF very clearly around its edge in underglaze blue transfer print.
Tableware like this would have been used for serving food to those serving in the Royal Air Force and were most likely used for formal dinners for more senior officers. It is rare to find them, especially as it dates to the 1940s and would have been used during the Second World War.
This platter has a simple, classic shape. It is great for use as a centrepiece for serving food upon when entertaining.
It is in fair condition for its age, with no cracks, chips or crazing. It does have wear and scuff marks to the surface and rim of the plate from where it has been used, including some stained age spots. The staining is more notable around the rim of the platter. But these add a natural timeworn charm to the piece and show the use it’s had over the years.
