Rare Antique 1920s White Ironstone Butchers Display Ham Stand Advertising Parnall & Sons Shop Outfitters
A rare Edwardian butchers or grocers ham stand, featuring prominent advertising for Parnall & Sons.
This antique white ironstone ham stand dates from the early 20th Century . It carries the signature Parnall & Sons black transfer maker’s mark, who were renowned shop outfitters at the time. The advertising logo features both their London & Bristol addresses.
Ceramic ham stands were commonly used in shops in the early part of the twentieth Century. They were used to display the meat provisions shops had available for sale.
This is a heavy and quality antique piece of ironstone and is overall in good, clean condition. There have been two professional chip restorations, one to the top rim and one to the base rim, which can be seen when looking closely at the stand, however these have been well done and largely blend in. Some of the spray has left some specs of coating on the middle section but, again, this is only notable when looking closely at the piece. Otherwise, the ham stand has some of the usual wear to the rims and age spots you’d expect to see on a piece of this age but is overall a very clean example.
In spite of the repairs, this is still a sturdy and good example with a rarely seen logo. It’s also been priced to reflect the damage.
A great piece of antique advertising which would fit well in a kitchenalia collection, and which is also a great display piece to use when entertaining, for example as a carving stand.
