A scarcely seen and unusual extra large rectangular sized Edwardian white ironstone scale plate. In good condition, these ceramic platters look fabulous simply on display and they also make excellent cheese plates or charcuterie boards. The huge size of this slab - at 38cm or 15” in width- makes it the perfect size for entertaining.

Made in the late 1800s/early 1900s in white ironstone, this large ironstone slab has a striking under glaze black transfer print featuring Lady Justice, with the logo for shop outfitter, Josiah Fisher & Son of Banham. Based on Norfolk, England, this is a lovely piece for anyone with a Norfolk connection. The transfer itself is still exceptionally clear and makes a very interesting feature.

This plate would have been used with a very large set of scales. Considering the age of this piece, it is in excellent condition. The ironstone is largely clean, except for the base where there is some mild staining and more scratch and scuff marks from use. There is very mild crazing all over the piece, which is common for items like this and adds to their timeworn charm.

There is a flake chip to the glaze on the back ridge, and a small dent to the glaze on the back of this. Other than this, and some very minor age marks, it’s a great item of antique kitchenalia.
