A fantastic rare toleware spice tin, dating from the late 1880s, divided into sections for Ginger, Spice, Cloves & Nutmeg, with an original nutmeg grater, in excellent condition.

This is a wonderful late Victorian tinware spice box which remains in nice antique condition. Although the original pillarbox red colouring of the toleware on the outside of the tin has faded a little over time, it is still very very vivid.

On the outside of the spice box, each spice section has striking gold typography framed in a decorative border.

Inside the tin is divided into four sections for the spices. The lid also has a removable nutmeg grater, which is also coloured gold on one side in order to blend in with the lid.

Overall, this Victorian toleware spice tin is in good condition. As is normal for toleware, there is oxidisation and wear, including surface scratches, to the tin, which is more notable on the top of the lid. But each section of the spice tin is still clearly recognisable. Nonetheless, this is a good looking and striking piece of antique kitchenalia which would look amazing on display.
