This is a listing for a timeworn ironstone potted meat pot, advertising Seager’s of Ipswich.

Dating from the late 1800s/early 1900s, this is a rare antique advertising white ironstone pot for potted meat. It features a rarely seen, large and clear red coloured transfer print logo for Seager’s butchers who were based in Ipswich. The coloured pots are harder to source. It reads: "R SEAGER. CHICKEN & HAM. IPSWICH"

Considered a throwaway item at the time it was produced, this English advertising pot was salvaged from an old Victorian dump only recently. And consequently it does bear some scars of its time underground.

However, considering its history it is in remarkable condition and is quite a clean example. There are no cracks or chips to the pot. There is a small firing fault on the edge of the base but this dates from the time of production and was glazed over then. There is light crazing all over, as well as some patches of staining. But the logo is still very clear and the transfer still very deeply coloured.
