This is a wonderful and rare example of a late Victorian carved English wooden butter dish, complete with a willow patterned ceramic liner.
Dating from around 1890, this rich coloured treen butter dish features intricate and deeply carved detail of a rosette and foliage garland.
The carving is exceptional, with layered approach taken on the leaves and is amongst the deepest I have seen on a butter dish. The original willow patterned liner, which has a rural farm setting depicted on it, is fixed into position in the middle of the board.
This butter dish and liner are both in excellent condition. The carving is just as crisp and sharp as the time it was produced.
