A unique example of a very rarely found Victorian Batty’s mustard advertising pot made of white ironstone and with decorative underglaze black advertising and typography.

Antique Batty’s mustard pots are difficult to source. This rare English advertising pot carries the company and name on its collar, with a bold etched pattern, and features advertising and the company’s trademark on both sides of the pot. The front of the pot highlights that the mustard was "...prepared at their wholesale and pickle warehouse" and features a Royal Warrant and their Finsbury Park London address. The other side of pot features their belted crown topped trademark in bold print.

Considered throwaway items at the time, they are now mainly sourced from digging up old Victorian tips. And they often carry the scars of their life underground.

In light of the history of this pot, it is in remarkable condition with no cracks. There is crazing all over, which is stained across the top half. There is a small hairline on the top rim of the pot, but this is stable, as well as some scuff marks to the pot's handles. But these imperfections give a unique timeworn charm to the pot. All of the underglaze black transfer print is still clear and legible.

Of note, there is a misprint to 'Pavement' on the front of the pot, which appears to be an error from the time of production as this is under the glaze.
