A rarely seen example of a large sized Edwardian stoneware English advertising pot for Fortnum & Mason’s Astrachan Caviare.
Dating from the early 20th Century, this is a wonderful English advertising caviar pot for the exclusive shop Fortnum & Mason’s, of Piccadilly London. On its front it bears the Royal crest, showing that it was a product approved and used by the Royal household.
Dug from an old Victorian dumping ground, this wonderful stoneware caviar pot is a rare survivor. Available in a range of sizes, this is one of the larger sized pots that would have been available, in size 6, as impressed on the side of the pot. Also impressed into the side at the base is the makers mark for Skey of Tamworth.
Despite being buried underground, the transfer is still very clear and visible and it is excellent condition, with just some staining in places (most notable to the top and base rims), as well as some small nibbles. A great antique advertising piece!
Diameter, 10cm
Height, 9cm
