Rare Antique Carved Octagonal Breadboard
Rare Antique Carved Octagonal Breadboard
A wonderful example of a rare octagonal shaped early 20th Century carved breadboard, with a timeworn patina and charm.
Likely to date to the late 1800s, this piece is likely eastern European in origin, with the pattern very typical of that area. The carving on this piece is beautiful, with a stunning relief border. The edge of the board itself features chip carved floral and moon shaped decorations. Although chip carving is an easier process, the detail here really stands out and it's a very impressive piece.
These English carved treen breadboards are becoming rarer and rarer to source, especially in this wonderful shape and still in usable order. The board is slightly longer than it is wide but this board still sits flat and so could still be used as a wonderful serving board. There are some light knife marks from use and also some staining in places but overall it's a very impressive piece. It is also in an extra large size compared to those you normally see in this shape.
