Large Vintage White Ironstone Family Pie Dish By Grimwades

A great family-sized and deep white ironstone pie dish, dating from the mid 20th Century.

Made by Grimwades in around 1940/1950, this company epitomised the production of practical food equipment. Their designs were often patented, as was the design for this “Perfection Patent Pie Dish”.

In green transfer print to the base is a great mark explaining how the pie dish is designed to help the baking process: “Grooved at bottom with four vents for air passage to prevent burning at bottom”. The dish has been designed to stand on raised edges, to ensure the base of the dish isn’t in direct contact with the oven, thereby helping to ensure proper air flow around the dish.

A well used piece, this dish is in good condition for its age, with no chips or cracks. There are stains, scuffs and scratches to the dish (both inside and externally) from use, plus age marks to the rims. However, it’s a great honest piece of vintage kitchenalia which still has plenty more use left in it still and is an excellent size for family use.
