A wonderful large, delicately carved, antique English wooden butter stamp, with a swimming swan.
This is a great piece of antique kitchenalia, perfect for giving a farmhouse feel to any display and for ongoing use imprinting its simple yet charming swan pattern into a butter round or biscuits. Stamps like this are particularly effective for use on shortbread.
The stamp is beautifully carved, with lots of detail of the swan’s body, different types of feathers and its eye and long beak. Details including reeds and water also unusually feature on this stamp. The addition of a carved border pattern elevates the style of the stamp even further.
This stamp is in good condition for its age. There are some minor spots of staining on the face of the stamp but this is quite minor and isn't overly notable. There is some wear to the handle and one old worm hole on the back but this has been treated and otherwise the stamp is in very sturdy condition, with no cracks.
