A great sized heavy duty butchers shop basher made by renowned shop outfitters, G Rushbrooke (Smithfield) Ltd in the early 20th Century.

Dating from around the 1930s, this solid sycamore wooden basher was intended to be used in butchers shop to bash and shape meat. It is a solid, weighty and heavy duty item, ideal for use now as a small chopping block or for serving meats or cheeses.

This board has a wonderful advertising plaque centrally at the front of the board for G Rushbrooke, and features their address in Smithfield, London.

In fair condition, the board does show signs of its life being used to bash meat, with wear to the wood at the edges of both sides of the block. There are also knife marks from where it has been used as a chopping block. However, otherwise it is in very solid and clean condition, It has a large brass loop attached to the handle, allowing it to be hung on the wall.

Length, 40.5cm (with loop); Width, 12cm; Height, 4.5cm
