A rare and lovely Victorian/Edwardian antique white ironstone potted meat packaging pot for David Scougal, butchers who were based in Edinburgh, dating from the early 1900s.

This is a great - and rarely found - example of antique advertising white ironstone pot for potted meat. The pot features black transfer print advertising text framed in a belted logo, in excellent condition. The pot is called ‘The Edina’.

For what is a rather humble item, it’s lovely to see the use of different sizes and depth of font and the nice oval belted detail on this pot.

Considered a throwaway item at the time it was produced, this English advertising pot was salvaged from an old Victorian dump. It is a very rare find and it’s unlikely many of these pots have survived.

Although the transfer advertising is still very clear, there is evidence of the pot’s history in its condition, with light crazing all over which has taken on a rusty coloured patina (mostly notable on the base of the pot). There are no chips or cracks although there are some small nibbles to the base rim. However, overall it is in fairly clean condition and the transfer is still very bold and clear.
