Antique French Ironstone Cake Stand or Compote Dish with Birds
Antique French Ironstone Cake Stand or Compote Dish with Birds
This French ironstone compote dish, dating from the early 20th Century, has a gorgeous timeworn charm and patina.
This ironstone compote dish has a beautiful black transferware pattern on it of baby birds foraging for nuts and seeds. This contrasts against the cool background of the white ironstone.
In excellent condition for its age, there are no chips, cracks or crazing with just some lightly stained surface scratches from cut marks and some mild age spots all over. The maker's mark is unknown to me but there is also a mark to highlight the copyright was registered in France.
The top of the compote is flat, making it perfect for displaying a variety of different types of cakes. It's also taller than many you usually find. Compote dishes like this are great for use as a kitchen centrepiece, for fruit like lemons or limes.
A lovely addition to any kitchen.
