A wonderful example of a rarely seen antique white ironstone scale plate, featuring an impressive advertising logo, which dates from the early 1900s.
This is a rare Edwardian scale plate, which would have originally been part of a set of scales. Joseph & Jesse Siddons are an iron and steelworks which still exists today. They would have produced scales too. Their logo, in underglazed black transfer print, is an impressive large size and has a great belted design.
This scale plate is a reasonably small version, measuring 21cm in diameter and 1cm in height. This makes it perfect for display purposes and for use as a small cheese board or platter. The ironstone will keep produce cool for some time.
This white ironstone scale plate is in good condition considering its age. There are scuff marks to the edges from where it has been used as well as some age spots and odd firing marks to the surface. The back has some staining around its edge but the front of the plate is largely clean. There are some patches of surface crazing and light fading to the transfer.
