This is a great sized antique English butter brick mould, dating from the early 20th Century.

A lovely large size, there is a fabulous carved image of a grazing cow. Often, the carvings in these moulds helped to identify where butter was produced, in this case it was most likely represented the dairy farm which produced the butter.

This mould has all its original cast iron fittings. Joined with a hinge at one end, the other end has a hook and latch allowing easy access once the butter has set.

With its rustic patina, this would look beautiful simply sat proudly on display to give a rustic touch to your interior kitchen styling. But as it's in perfect working order, it's also ideal for more adventurous cooks who might want to try making their own butter.

Apart from general age and wear to the fittings, the mould is in very good overall condition. There are some surface scratches and marks to the wooden surface, and wear to the joints but this doesn’t affect use of the piece. There are also some old worm holes to the centre of the mould, but these have been treated.

Length, 28cm; Width, 12.5cm; Height, 5cm (to make an oval butter block measuring 17.5cm x 9.5cm x 4cm)
