Antique 19th Century French Cast Iron Round Spittoon

This 19th Century enamelled French cast iron spittoon is a lovely example.

With a decorative scalloped base, this spittoon is in excellent order with just some minor patches of oxidisation.

Although these pieces have a rather unhygienic backstory (they would have been filled with sand and left on bar tops and counters for customers to spit into), in modern times they are highly decorative feature pieces in their own right, and are stunning display stands.
