Antique Victorian Extra Large Treen Butter Stamp with Carved Strawberry Decoration
This is a nice piece of antique treen kitchenalia dating from the nineteenth Century, with a carved strawberry design.
This extra large sized hardwood butter stamp or butter mould/mold dates from the late 1800s. It is rare to find one so large, which makes it the ideal size to use for shortbread or biscuits. The carving is still very crisp and clear.
The butter print is in overall fair condition. The side of the outer casing has split over time. To remedy this, it appears to have previously been glued together and the whole piece varnished. The carving is still very clear through this, and it still is very usable. However, the split has reoccurred, so care needs to be exercised when this object is in use.
There are some odd marks to the mould and some old splashes of paint. Some dribbles of the varnish can also be seen on the outer casing. Nonetheless, the unusually large size of this mould really does make it stand out and, with the carving still very clear, it would make an excellent item to display.
Width, 13cm at its widest (the face of the butter stamp measures 10.5cm in diameter); Height, 16cm
