Antique Early 20th Century French White Ironstone Double Sided Advertising Pot – Grey Poupon Dijon Mustard
This is a listing for ONE antique French white ironstone advertising pot for Grey-Poupon Dijon Mustard, dating from the early 1900s. A total of three are available, in a large, medium or small sizes.
Made by Sarreguemines, these are sturdy and heavy white ironstone pots. I am always in awe of the quality and detail that goes into antique French advertising pots, and these little pots are no exception. Even though they have been dug from the ground, the double sided black transfer print logos advertising the Grey Poupon brand of Dijon mustard are still exceptionally clear. The detail in these prints is astonishing, with a grapevine circling a shield on the front of the pot, and a ribboned banner around the top of the pot. Considering the fact that these pots were often throwaway items, the detail is astonishing.
Despite the fact that these pots come from an old dump, they are all in very good condition.
LEFT POT: the largest available, this measures 13cm tall and 7cm wide. In excellent clean condition, the transfer print is crisp and clear still, with the only signs of age some mild discolouration to the top rim and some minor nibbles to the base.
MIDDLE POT: this mid sized pot measures 11.5cm tall and 6.5cm wide. In good clean condition, there is just some small patches of mild crazing and odd age spots. The transfer on this pot is still very clear.
RIGHT POT: the smallest available, this pot measures 10cm tall and 6.5cm wide. In good clean condition, there are just some minor spots of discolouration. There is a small surface crack to the glaze at the top rim and a small amount of fading to the transfer, but it’s still very clear.
