Antique Early 20th Century Carved Frenh Wooden Butter Stamp with Bird Decoration
This is a nice piece of antique French kitchenalia dating from the early 20th Century, with a simple but pretty carving of a bird stood upon a branch.
This treen butter stamp or butter mould/mold has a nice patina to it, with the carving of the bird still very clear. It is rare to see birds on butter stamps.
French in origin, it has the telltale signs of life in a French barn, with old woodworm holes on the piece. However, many have been filled and the piece has also been treated. In spite of this, it’s still a very attractive item and would add a vintage French look to a display. Aside from these issues, it is in good condition.
Antique butter stamps look lovely displayed as part of a kitchenalia collection. They are also excellent used in the modern kitchen as biscuit stamps. They work particularly well on shortbread.
