Antique French 1930s Vivid Blue Glass Soda Syphon
A lovely example of French soda or seltzer syphon, dating from the 1930s, in a wonderful rich blue colour.
These French syphons were made in Czechoslovakia on behalf of drinks companies for bars, cafes and restaurants in France. This bottle was produced for a bar or cafe called “Robot”, based on Saulieu. The decorative etched advertising features a decorative leaf pattern framing the following text:
“Biere Limonade Robot. Saulieu”
The cafe name and location is also etched into the metal spout. On the other side, the spout also features the maker’s name, P Bobet, and shows the type of soda syphon it is – a 4 litre ‘Gallic’.
The price of this item reflects the fact that there is some damage to it. While the glass itself is fully in tact, with no chips, the glass straw inside has broken and is hanging loose. I have been unable to take the top of the syphon off to remove it, although this may be possible. There is also some build up of line scale inside the glass, but the decorative etching is still legible.
However, as a decorative piece for a home bar or in a kitchen, this is a lovely example of a highly sought after, vibrant blue coloured French soda syphon.
