Antique French 19th Century Treen Butter Mould or Brick with Carved Cow Decoration
This is an outstanding antique French butter brick mould, dating from the nineteenth Century.
This mould would have been made in the 1800s. A lovely large size, there is a fabulous carved image of a grazing cow. Often, the carvings in these moulds helped to identify where butter was produced, in this case it was most likely represented the dairy farm which produced the butter.
This mould has all its original cast iron fittings. Joined with a hinge at one end, the other end has a hook and latch allowing easy access once the butter has set.
With its rustic patina, this would look beautiful simply sat proudly on display to give a rustic touch to your interior kitchen styling. But as it’s in perfect working order, it’s also ideal for more adventurous cooks who might want to try making their own butter.
Apart from general age and wear to the fittings, the mould is in excellent overall condition and is still perfectly usable. There are some surface scratches and marks to the wooden surface, and wear to the joints but this doesn’t affect use of the piece.
