Victorian White Ironstone English Advertising Pot – Chubby One Pound Frank Cooper Marmalade Oxford
This is a listing for one standard sized Victorian one pound chubby Frank Cooper marmalade advertising pot, which is in a chippy and weathered condition. There are a total of two to choose from.
Made by the Maling factory in Newcastle around 1900, these 1 pound “chubby” size English advertising pots are versatile and popular crocks, which are perfect for a variety of uses around the modern home. The Frank Cooper company produced their advertising pots for Seville marmalade in a variety of sizes, and this is the chubbier, standard sized one pound crock.
As most jars were discarded with common waste at the time, they often have discoloration and chips. However, this adds to their charm as highly decorative, weathered and chippy pieces. And these examples certainly show evidence of their time underground, with some knocks and cracks.
LEFT POT: The cleanest of the two pots available, this pot has a clear transfer and is covered is lightly stained crazing. There is a hairline crack running down the right hand side of this pot. While tight towards the bottom, the top of this crack isn’t stable. However, this still serves as a good decorative piece. There is also a significant chip to the base of the pot on the right hand side.
RIGHT POT: This pot is covered in crazing and has coffee coloured staining over most of it. Although the transfer has faded a little in places, it’s still clearly legible. There is a chip to the base of the pot at the front and also four hairline cracks running down the pot from the top rim. However, the pot’s lovely colouring gives it a unique patina and it’s still a lovely pot for display purposes.
