Antique Edwardian White Ironstone Medicine or Food Measuring Spoon
A lovely example of an antique French white ironstone advertising pot for Grey-Poupon Dijon Mustard, dating from the late 1800s.
Made by Sarreguemines, this is a sturdy and heavy white ironstone pot. Available in a range of sizes, this is the mid-sized pot which is 12.5cm tall. Bearing the Digoin Sarreguemines mark on it’s base, this pot was made in the late 1800s.
I am always in awe of the quality and detail that goes into antique French advertising pots, and this little pot is no exception. Even though this has been dug from the ground, the double sided black transfer print logos advertising the Grey Poupon brand of Dijon mustard are still exceptionally clear. The detail in these prints is astonishing, with a grapevine circling a shield on the front of the pot, and a ribboned banner around the top of the pot. Considering the fact that these pots were often throwaway items, the detail is astonishing.
Despite the fact that this pot comes from an old dump, it is in very good condition. There are some patches of discolouration and staining, and the pot has also taken a small knock to its side. But there are no major chips or cracks.
