Edwardian White Ironstone Banded Rice Storage Jar

antique edwardian 1920s smiths crisps shop display glass jar counter

A highly collectable Edwardian white banded ironstone storage jar for RICE, in nice condition with its original lid.

These white ironstone storage jars were popular in the early part of the twentieth Century, when foodstuffs were often sold in loose measures in local grocers shops. This banded jar features a “RICE label. It is a great large size and its rounded shape is also unusual.

This Edwardian jar is in fair condition for its age. The jar itself has no crazing or hairlines and just some odd firing faults and minor age spots, including a little aged discoloration to the rim of the lid.

Unfortunately, the black transfer print has faded although the word “RICE” is still legible. The lid of the pot has a small chip to its rim measuring 1cm by 0.5cm. There is also a small surface crack to the glaze on bottom rim of the pot.

Height, 18cm; Width, 15cm (at widest point).
