Antique Edwardian White Banded Ironstone Kitchen Storage Jar for Meal
This is a very nice and rare example of a white banded Edwardian storage jar, labelled to store Meal with its original lid. Although the black transfer print label has now faded, the storage jar is otherwise in mint condition.
These white ironstone storage jars were popular in the early part of the twentieth Century, when foodstuffs were often sold in loose measures in local grocers shops. These types of pots are becoming harder and harder to source, especially for foods which we don’t tend to use in the kitchen any more, like meal.
Unfortunately, the “MEAL” label on this pot has now faded, although this can still be identified. However, this banded jar is otherwise in mint condition, with no crazing, cracks or chips and only some odd age marks and firing marks.
Height, 14cm; Width, 12cm.
