Antique Edwardian Toleware Hot Water Can with Embroidered Cosy in Sage Green

1930s antique Meredith Drew glass shop counter advertising display jar

A wonderful Edwardian hot water set, including a toleware hot water can and a sage green cosy. These would have been used in bedrooms at the time for washing of an evening or morning, the cosy helping the water to stay hot for longer.

This lovely toleware hot water can is in nice condition, with much of the original paint still in tact. The black printed “Hot Water” lettering across the top of the can has faded in places, although it can still be deciphered. The inside is a good colour too, although the base of the inside has tarnished through use and age.

The sage green hot water cosy has “Hot Water” beautifully embroidered across the front of it in large script font. It is lined with thick wadding and has a hook, from which would have been hung when not in use. There are water marks and some fading due to sun exposure. The trim is also coming away in places but this could be easily fixed. In spite of these flaws, it still looks a fabulous piece.

Overall, these items are in fair condition. They would make an excellent set prop or display item, for giving an element of Edwardian charm to your home. The hot water can has tarnished in places, plus there are some surface scratches where the paint has come away. But much of the paint is still in tact and it looks great. And, as mentioned, although the hot water cosy has some stains and fading, the embroidery is so striking it is is easy to overlook this.
