Antique Edwardian Large White Ironstone Barrel Banded Butter Dish with Black Transfer Print Typography
This is a large rare Edwardian white barrel banded ironstone butter dish or crock.
In Edwardian times, butter dishes were used commonly to keep butter cool. This large version would probably have been used in the kitchen of a large household.
Dating from the early 1900s, this butter dish is in nice condition. Although there is no lid, the dish is still very usable as a butter dish when entertaining. There is no crazing, although there are some spots of staining across the front. These are grease marks where the surface has come into contact with dairy produce. However, generally this staining is quite mild especially in comparison to other similar dishes. A small chip to the top rim also looks like it has been repaired.
With a barrel banded effect surrounding the butter dish, this is a very handsome piece of antique kitchenalia. It’s perfectly usable in a kitchen today, or would look great on display.
