Antique Edwardian Miniature English Advertising Pot – Holloway’s Ointment

antique edwardian holloways ointment white ironstone english advertising pot

This is a listing for a small late Victorian/Edwardian white ironstone English miniature advertising pot for Holloway’s ointment.

Dating from around the end of the 19th/start of the 20th Century, this antique advertising pot is perfect for those who love age and patination.

This chemists pot is a fantastic example of antique advertising, packed with lots of detail and imagery. The trademark Greek goddess Hygieia sits centre stage, and each side of her are instructions about the ailments the ointment can help to heal, including ulcers, sore breasts and bad legs. Back then, bold and wild medicinal claims were commonly used in advertising.

As ointment pots were discarded with common waste at the time, and have been more recently been dug up from Victorian dumping grounds, they often have discoloration and chips. However, this adds to their charm as highly decorative, weathered and chippy pieces.

This pot has suffered some burn damage and is also heavily stained. There are also two small hairlines to the top rim, although they are stable. In spite of this damage, the imagery is still clearly legible.
