Antique Edwardian White Ironstone English Advertising Pyramid Nightlight Holder
This is a listing for a beautifully aged Clarke’s ‘Fairy’ Pyramid nightlight holder, dating from around the 1930s.
Featuring prominent advertising all over, this is a lovely example. The under glazed black typography advertising is prominent all over this pot. Designed to use with Clarke’s pyramid night lights, the rhyming saying on the back of the pot is a real treasure:
“When nights are dark then think of Clarke, who’s hit the mark precisely; For his night-lights crest light-nights in which you see quite nicely”
In fair condition for its age, this pot is sadly missing it’s original lid. However, it’s nonetheless still a very attractive piece of antique advertising in its own right. There are no chips. The glaze has crazed all over, which has stained towards the bottom of the pot. I suspect this is as a result of regular use. But the result is a lovely warm tea stained colouring which adds to the timeworn charm of the piece. There are also a few surface cracks to the glaze on the inside and outside of the pot, although none of these penetrate through and the pot is structurally sound.
A great example of antique English advertising on ironstone pots which would look wonderful displayed in the home.
