Antique Edwardian Maling Cetem Ware Butter Dish
A lovely antique white banded ironstone butter dish. A Maling Cetem Ware version. Complete with its original lid.
Although the lid has some damage, it’s still an excellent display piece and can also continue to be used on a day to day basis.
The base of the butter crock is in excellent condition, with “BUTTER” written in good, clear black transfer print. There are some glazing faults and also grease marks around the rim. This has come from regular use over the years, and is common with these types of butter dishes.
The lid has air holes but has had some previous damage, with a repaired crack and also some hairline cracks as evident in the photographs. It is structurally OK but is obviously fragile. There is also some discoloration to the lid.
The cracks do sit towards the rear of the lid and so are not obvious. This ironstone butter dish would therefore make an excellent display piece for someone looking to grab this type of item at a good price.
Width, 22cm; Height, 9.5cm; Depth, 15cm.
