Primitive Rustic Antique Early 20th Century Stackable Wooden Egg Rack – 20 Eggs

antique early 20th century rustic primitive stackable wooden treen egg rack 20

A delightful treen egg rack to hold fifteen eggs, dating from the late 1800s.

This English wooden egg rack dates from the Victorian period, with capacity to hold up to 15 eggs on a single tier. This more compact sized rack is quite difficult to source.

It was common for these racks to be used in the kitchens of large houses, where many eggs would be used daily. In fact, in Downton Abbey, the kitchen had an egg rack the same style as this, although it did run the entire length of the kitchen island.

It was common for these racks to be stacked on top of each other in order to deter pests from getting their hands on precious fresh eggs. Of simple construction, it has a primitive and rustic style.

It is in very good condition considering the age of the piece. It is sturdy, with both legs both firmly in place with the original fixings. There are some surface stains to the top of the egg rack, as well as an old paint splatter, from where this has been used, and is evidence of its history in use. One of the legs also bends in slightly, although it stands flat and has no wobble to it. There are also some old cracks where the nails have split the wood slightly. Other than this, it is in excellent, sturdy condition and has many more years worth of use left in it.

It is a great piece of antique treen kitchenalia which is still perfect for use today whilst also adding a genuine antique charm to the kitchen.
