Antique Early 20th Century Carved English Breadboard – with Carved ‘Bread’ Motto
A wonderful carved English breadboard, made by Bramhall in the early to mid 20th Century, with the word “Bread” clearly carved into its border.
This is a great example of a carved English bread board, with a gorgeous rich colour and patination.
Carved breadboards were extremely popular household items at the time. This breadboard were made by one of the most famous manufacturers of breadboards at the time, Bramhall, notable for the use of a teardrop in the top of the carved letter ‘B’ of their boards.
Despite its age, the carving on this “Bread” board is still very nicely defined and clear, framed by simple leaves and a small ear of wheat on each side.
This antique breadboard has a great colour and is in very good condition. It sits flat and has a wonderful rich colour. There are normal knife marks from use, more notably on the middle section. And there is a small burn to the bottom rim of the board, where the board has also worn slightly. However, this doesn’t detract and overall this is a great piece either for ongoing use or display as part of a kitchenalia collection.
