Antique Victorian White Ironstone Advertising Pot – Chippy One Pound Chubby Frank Cooper Marmalade
This is a listing for one standard sized Victorian one pound chubby Frank Cooper marmalade advertising pot, which is in a chippy and weathered condition.
Made by the Maling factory in Newcastle around 1900, these 1 pound “chubby” size English advertising pots are versatile and popular crocks, which are perfect for a variety of uses around the modern home. The Frank Cooper company produced their advertising pots for Seville marmalade in a variety of sizes, and this is the chubbier, standard sized one pound crock.
As most jars were discarded with common waste at the time, they often have discoloration and chips. However, this adds to their charm as highly decorative, weathered and chippy pieces. This example certainly shows evidence of its time discarded underground, with some significant knocks and cracks. However, it’s still an attractive piece that would look good displayed.
This pot has a significant hairline crack running through its middle and base. This isn’t stable so I wouldn’t recommend this pot be filled with anything. There is also a significant chip to its base rim but this doesn’t affect the way the pot stands up. The pot also has crazing all over, which has stained in some places.
Please check my other listings for a variety of other antique advertising pots, which make excellent decorative pieces around the home.
