Antique Victorian Carved English Wooden Bread Knife with Floral Handle
This is an excellent example of a Victorian carved wooden English bread knife.
Dating from the late 1800s, this bread knife has nicely carved detail. Featuring three layered rosettes and leaf detail on the handle, it is a very pretty carving. The handle also has a wonderful rich colour and patination. Although a little worn in places, the carving is recognisable.
The steel blade is in lovely condition with very little tarnishing and so is good to use. ‘Bread Knife’ is etched onto the blade in gothic stylised typography. It also has the maker’s mark engraved, Harrison Bros & Howson, who were also cutlers to Queen Victoria. The VR initials and crown are also visible still.
In overall excellent condition, this carved bread knife is perfect for day to day use in the kitchen or shown off on display as part of an antique kitchenalia or treen collection.
