1920s or 1930s Antique Wicker Grocers Shopping Basket

1930s antique Meredith Drew glass shop counter advertising display jar

A superb example of an antique wicker shopping basket or shopper, dating from the 1920s but still perfect for use today when out shopping or for decorative purposes around the home.

This wicker basket has a sturdy wooden base, and I suspect might therefore have been for customers to use in a grocery or provisions shop in the 1920s or 1930s. With black bounded handles which are fixed firmly in place, this is a lovely feature which really makes the basket stand out. The wooden base also adds sturdiness to the basket, making it perfect for general use when out shopping. It would also look wonderful on display in the home.

The basket is in good overall condition. The top corner weave has broken away, and there are some odd broken pieces of wicker, but there is no loose weaving or wicker sticking out awkwardly in places. There is also some minor gapping in the black binding on the handles. The wooden also has some paper residue from previous use. This could potentially be scraped away.

Height, 33cm (basket is 20cm high); Width, 35cm; Depth, 26cm.
