Antique Weathered & Chippy 1lb James Keiller Dundee Marmalade Pot

antique edwardian 1920s smiths crisps shop display glass jar counter

A rare and unusual example of a 1lb late Victorian or Edwardian James Keiller & Son stoneware marmalade pot, made by Maling of Newcastle at the turn of the Century.

This marmalade pot was found as part of a dig, most probably thrown out with the rubbish when it was first used more than 100 years ago. This has given the pot a unique weathered and tea stained grey finish and patina, which has worked into crazing, giving differing shades of grey across the piece.

Considering the aged patina and colour to this piece, it is in exceptional condition with no chips, cracks or dents. The piece has crazing all over but this adds to the weathered and aged finish.

Height, 17.5cm; Width, 11.5cm.
