Antique Victorian Possibly French – Fox Shaped Herb Chopper

1930s antique Meredith Drew glass shop counter advertising display jar

A wonderful example of an antique early 20th Century herb chopper or cleaver in the shape of a fox, which is possibly French in origin.

This is a nicely cut, solid quality fox shaped herb chopper. This cleaver has a great sturdiness to it, with the steel blade continuing through the handle, to offer counter balance when in use. The addition of copper rivet eyes and a cunning smile etched into both sides of the steel adds to the quality and quirkiness of this piece.

Possibly French in origin, herb choppers like this were often given as wedding presents.

The chopper is on overall great condition and is a very heavy piece. The steel blade has darkened in places through age, and there also some small patches of discoloration which could be cleaned up if desired. Perfect for ongoing use as a herb chopper or for display.

Length, 33.5cm; Height, 14.5cm at tallest point.
