Large Antique Victorian English Wooden Butter Stamp or Mould with Strawberry Design
This is a quality piece of antique treen kitchenalia dating from the nineteenth Century, with a beautifully carved strawberry design.
This sycamore butter stamp or butter mould/mold has a lovely warm patina and feel to it, with the carving of strawberries and their foliage in exquisite detail. It dates from the mid to late 1800s.
Antique butter stamps look lovely displayed as part of a kitchenalia collection. They are also excellent used in the modern kitchen as biscuit stamps. They work particularly well on shortbread.
The butter print is in excellent overall condition, with a nice warm colour to the wood. The handle screws into position. There are some patches where the wood is a little darker in colour, from where the stamp has been used and has come into contact with grease. However, this adds to the natural timeworn charm of the piece. There is an old split at the top of the handle. However, this doesn’t affect the integrity of the piece in any way.
