Antique Victorian Carved English Bread Knife with Steel Blade
A wonderful English nicely carved wooden bread knife, dating from the latter part of the 1800s.
This Victorian treen bread knife, with its carved “BREAD” handle is in wonderful condition for its age. With a finial end, the quality hardwood handle is still nice and clear and has a wonderful mellow finish and feel to it, and is attached to the blade with a quality joint, highlighting the handmade nature of the knife. The handle has a lovely rich colour to it still.
The steel blade is in excellent clean condition. They are normally very tarnished and oxidised from contact with water, but there are only some small areas of tarnishing on this example. The blade is etched with the maker’s name, S. Hibbert & Son, of Tenter St Sheffield.
In summary, this is an excellent piece of antique treen kitchenalia which will look lovely on display but is also good for ongoing day to day use.
