Antique Victorian Deeply Carved English Bread Knife with Flower & Wheat Detail

1930s antique Meredith Drew glass shop counter advertising display jar

A fantastic example of a large and deeply carved Victorian bread knife, with expressive carved flower and wheat detail.

This steel bladed carved bread knife, dating from the 1800s, is longer and heavier than most. It is a great example of the craftsmanship that went into producing carved treen items at the time.

The wheat and flower detail on the handle is deeply carved and looks like it has had hardly any use, as the carving has suffered any wear and is still very crisp. It is attached to a steel bladed handle that bears no maker’s mark.

The knife is in great condition for its age. The steel blade has darkened through oxidisation over time, as is very common with these types of knives. There is also some dirt and marks to the handle, but this does not detract from the quality of the carving and it still stands as a lovely piece of antique kitchenalia.

Length, 33cm; Width, 3cm at widest point on handle and blade.
